Conversation with Dax

I am very fortunate to work with Dax at his studios in London. Not just because I get to learn all the knowledge on how to get results fast, but to get an idea of how his mind works.

Having a conversation with Dax today really got me thinking about how I should go about setting my own business up. The one thing that scares me more than anything is setting up a studio with all the overheads and being in debt from the start!

Considering I'm leaving Dax's studio in less than two weeks now, the very thought of it brings on immediate butterflies!

Dax is very good at inspiring people and helping people achieve their goals. However, today he set the record straight as to what I should do and how I should should go about doing it.

This was by no means negative but extremely practical.

What I learnt from our conversation...

I want a training studio because I want to be known as one of the best health and fitness coaches in the UK. I also want to make a lot of money.

So does that mean I need my very own place?

Having my very own place could quite easily lose me money (especially in the first year), having a high internet status could very well earn me money.

Having a place where I could have my own coaches and work in someone elses gym letting them worry about the overheads sounds much more appealing.

I think the main problem I first had with this idea was that Dax has such a high reputation as one of the UK's top trainers and he owns his own studio.

So what am I going to do about it?

Email, phone write to all the gyms in my area and make them an offer they can't refuse!

I'll keep you posted...

Master Mind Call 1

It’s Wednesday night about 9:55pm and I’ve just finished my consultation script. Really made me think about what needs to be put in place as far as exercise, nutrition and terms and conditions are concerned.

Anyway previous to that we (Mastermind group) have had our first master mind call and it was fantastic and really exciting.

Tim was in charge of the whole thing as he’s done it all before and it ran so smoothly.

We all started with our ‘round robin’ of breaking the ice and then started on any problems we have and each of us went through a solution. The great thing about this is although you may not currently have this problem, you end up with about 8 different ways to combat it if you did come along in the near future.

It really keeps you thinking on your feet and you also come up with solutions that you didn’t know you had.

I feel really privileged to be with the mastermind group that I am with as already it feels like everyone genuinely cares about each other problems.

P.S. Reason it’s posted on Thursday is because I have no internet access where I live and I’ve been back to back all morning.

How Valuable is my time?

DEMAND - How much demand is there for what you do?

To get the results people are looking for in a shorter period of time than most trainers, I believe the demand for me is high. I believe this goes back to the previous post about knowing what screw to turn.

ABILITY - How able are you to meet the demand?

If you asked me 12 months ago. How confident are you when a client comes in and wants to lose a certain amount of weight? I'd probably asked not very confident at all. Now, I know what i can achieve and know what my clients can achieve.

What we tend to do, well I do this, is take what we learn for granted and think that what we are showing our clients or telling our clients is average information. In some people cases, the information may seem groundbreaking to them. I think if we really look back and see what we've achieved, we'd appreciate our abilities much more.

DIFFICULTY TO REPLACE - How hard would it be to replace you right now?

I think at the moment I'm quite hard to replace but over time and through more experience I could be replaced. This is certainly something I'm currently working on to become more uniquie and therefore more difficult to replace.

How much am I worth PART 2

Ok, so the reason for part 2?
I didn't complete part 1 properly, I avoided the question and didn't get a away with it.

When Dax mentioned about his family time and adventures that his took, it all began to fall into place.

I'm worth (by the hour)£65 at least, it's not what I charge but it is what I'm worth. The reason being is that I could be working on my ebooks to make passive incomes, I could be spending what little time I have with my fiancee. I worth it because I know what screws to turn. (see story below).

I got this story from either a Tony Robbins cd or from Stephen Covey.

This one time in a big shopping mall where there were say a dozen escalators, all at the time these escalators broke down. This was close to being the mall's biggest nightmare.

They wanted to make sure that they found the best man for the job, someone who they trusted to fix it. When the service man arrived he looked the escalators up and down and opened one of the units. He took out his srewdriver and truned the one screw half an inch. As soon as he turned it, the entire malls escalators began to move and all started working again.

The manager couldn't believe it and asked the service man how much it will all cost.

The service man confidently, replied '$10,000' to which the manager said 'what, for 5 minutes work, I want an itemised bill for that.'

The service man wrote on a piece of paper his itemised bill, here's what he wrote.

Turning the screw $1, know what screw to turn $9,999.

Thats how I currently rate myself. I know what screws to turn and I'm being to value my time more.

Day 3

For the past 2 mornings now I've woke up with an excited and nervous feeling. Had a chat with Bev (my lap dancing fiancee as Dax put's it. Though for the record, she's not) and decided that I need to fill the whole of my day with preparation and work towards my/our business.

The one thing we've been asked to do it say how much we are worth. I used to have a real problem with this as I probably had very little self worth and on many occasions myself and Dax talked about how I feel about charging what I do.

Per hour I charge £50 and I now know that I'm worth much more than that now. Not just because of the experience I've had at the studio, but because of the passion that I have in training of my clients and genuine care for my clients.

So how much do I really think I'm worth?

After all I've just said, I really don't know, but I DO know my time is valuable and I aim to make the most of it through this mentor program and for the future.

Dax Moy Mentor Programme

Day 1 on Dax Moy's Mentor programme (in my head I'm hearing the geordie from Big Brother say that) all the house mates are.............sorry I'll stop now!

My name's Kevin Raison, I'm currently a senior coach at Dax's studio in Islington. I say currently, because I'm soon to be moving back to my home town of Birmingham UK to set up my own version of what Dax does down here in London.

I've been working with Dax for just over a year now and have learned an unbelievable amount of marketing, training, nutrition, therapy and tons more. Although I have been extremely fortunate to work with Dax, I took a big risk. I decided to take out a loan and move everything down to London (apart from my fiancee who wasn't too happy).

Anyway, a year on and I'm setting up on my own and I'm still with my fiancee. When Dax approached me about the mentor course I couldn't believe my luck, it just seems like the perfect opportunity and time for me to do this. Which brings to to yesterday (25/10/2007).

After the first call yesterday I was buzzing and nervous. I know what Dax is like, in the first week I started at the studios I mentioned that I'd like to do public speaking and my main interest was nutrition/weight manangement. Within my second week of being there I was setting up and preparing for my first course and playing the role of Simon Cowell by having to eliminate certain hopefuls who wanted to come on.

Yes, it's true, I love that man, I love him so much. He really is the man and I can't get over how badly I'm letting him down by leaving to set up home with my lap-dancing fiancee. (Dax wrote that while my back was turned so I'd thought I'd leave it in to show you what I have to put up with).

To end, I cant wait to really get going on this 6 month course. I already woke up this morning at about 12:30am and spent an hour finishing off my magic hundred list and writing what I'm going to achieve in the next 6 months.

I'm really looking forward to working with you all.

In Health
